I liked this fruit cake -- mom would sometimes make them in the pecan tassies forms.
2 cups sugar
2 cups sour milk
2 cups raisins
1 cup currants
4 cups flour
1/2 c. melted shortening
1 tsp. cinnamon, clove, nutmeg & salt
2 tsp. soda
Bake 1 hour slowly
| 1 cup oleo 4 eggs 3 1/2 c. sifted flour 1 lb. orange slices, cut 1/2 lb. dates cut-in pieces |
2 c. pecans 2 c. sugar 1 tsp. soda 1/2 c. buttermilk or sour milk 2 c. coconut |
Cream the oleo & sugar. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating after each egg. Add the soda, add sifted flour & sour milk. Than add the orange slices, dates, coconut and pecans. Grease and flour pans and bake in slow oven about 300º until done. 1 1/2 hours to bake.
1 cup powdered sugar
1/3 c. orange juice
1 Tbsp. sugar
Boil mixture. Poke holes in cake and pour this mixture over it.
